We have to do a simple, independent experiment for my science class. I was planning on using two different types of flowers, placing them both in two separate vases of water mixed with food coloring, and comparing the rates at which the two sets of flowers changed color as a result of the food coloring in the water.
The purpose of the assignment is to teach us about the scientific method, so our experiments require an independent variable, dependent variables, constants, experimental groups, and a control group. My experimental groups, I believe, would be the two sets of flowers, but how would I have a control group? Should I just have one more vase of each type of flower, without adding food coloring to the water? This seems somewhat futile, doesn't it? Obviously the flowers without food coloring are not going to change color. So what would my control group be?
Thank you!|||I'm pretty sure your control would be just regular water. This may seem pointless but it gives you something to compare your results to.
