Why is the death date in the treatment group about the same as the rate in the control group?

The treatment group is made up of women who were encouraged to come in for a mammogram/examination - 20,200 came in and 10,800 refused. The total for this is 31,000

The death rate for examined women was 2.1%, for women who refused it was 3.8%. The overall death rate for treatment was 2.7%.

The control group was offered standard health care that did not include mammogram/examination - 31,000 were in this group as well

The death rate for the control group was 2.8%.

|||Goes to show that treatment doesn't work.

Is this a math question or a medical one?

cp|||The 0.1% may only seem like an insignificant number,

unless you know one of those additional 31 women that died in the control group.

Of the treatment groups, why they refused a mammogram should be investigated. Too busy and inconvenient my be a clue to lifestyle factors or there may be those in this group that know they are bad off but are in denial or do not want to let their families or insurance know.
