What would the independent variable, dependent variable and the control group be for an experiment that is about volunteers taking two different math test except half of the volunteers will listen to their ipods while the other half is not?|||The independent variable is the variable that is imposed on a group. The dependent variable is the behaviour that results from the independent variable.
The control group is the group where nothing is imposed, or the conditions are left unchanged. The 'status quo' group, if that helps.
In the terms of the above situation, it depends on what you're trying to find. If you want to see the effect music has on test results, then your independent variable is the listening of music (or none at all), and the dependent variable is the test results. The control group would be the group that did not listen to music, as you want to compare the results of the group listening to music to these guys.
Hope that helps!|||Im not sure if this is what ur teacher wants but i think control would be the people with no ipods, independent would be if they are listening to music or not ,or just what you are testing, and dependent would be the test scores because its what ur measuring
