Designing an experiment: What should my control group be?

My experiment involves dandelions.

One treatment group receives sun light, the other treatment group does not.

Would a good control group be 12 hours sun light, 12 hours shade?|||If your experiment is to see how much sunlight dandelions need, then no sunlight would be your control group. But realistically, anything can be a control group as long as the others are not the same.

For example:

control-no sunlight experimental-12 hours of sunlight

control 12 hours of "sunlight" experimental-24 hours of "sunlight"

control 12 hours of "sunlight" experimental-18 hours of sunlight

You are simply looking for the differences between groups.

Good luck!
